Kraft Goes Healthy, Starting With Cheese

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - If you're a fan of Kraft's individually wrapped cheese slices, the company is tweaking the recipe a bit.

Kraft is permanently removing an artificial preservative. This change in recipe comes as many food companies are going under greater scrutiny for the ingredient in their products.

Kraft says as more and more Americans try to stick to more natural diets food makers are prompted to change what goes into their recipes.

The change will affect the company's Kraft singles in the full-fat American and White American varieties, which account for most of the company's sales.

Kraft says the decision took about five years to perfect because Kraft wanted to ensure the products taste and shelf life remained the same.

The company is also looking into taking out preservatives in the remainder of its products, but has decided to start with its top seller, Kraft singles.

The new singles will have a red circle on their packaging to indicate the product is free of artificial preservatives.

Some have already hit select grocers.

Kraft will begin airing TV advertisements for the product near the end of February.
