Mobile Home Fire Kills Two People

Posted: Updated:

IONIA, Mich. (WLNS) - Investigators are hoping to learn more about what caused an Ionia County mobile home fire that killed two people.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at a mobile home in the 5300 block of Hotchkiss Road near Saranac.

Officials don't suspect foul play, however, say due to the extent of damage done to the home, a cause hasn't been determined. An investigation showed the local fire department had been to the house for multiple medical calls and had warned the family about their use of space heaters.

Steven Mack Smith, 51, and Thomas Arthur Smith, 47, both from Boston Township, died from the fire, along with the family dog.

The fire remains under investigation.
