Consumers Customers Give V-Day Cards, Ask For Utility To Change

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) - Valentine's Day is Friday and some Consumers Energy customers went to the company's headquarters in Jackson to deliver hundreds of V-Day cards from customers.

They're asking the company to lead Michigan toward a "clean energy future."

Although Consumers Energy is meeting the state's renewable energy goals, the group says they think the Consumers Energy, Michigan's second largest utility, should do more.

Ironically, the company announced they'll shut down three coal-fired power plants in Michigan. The utility said they plan to close and demolish units on Muskegon Lake, one near Luna Pier in Monroe County and a complex near Bay City on the Saginaw Bay.

They said the plants should be shut down by April 2016. Together, they have a 950-mega watt electric capacity. The company's recent announcement to purchase a 540-mega watt natural gas power plant in Jackson should help off-set the shut downs.
