Mich. Anglers Fish Without License This Weekend

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - If you're eager to get outdoors for some fishing, this weekend would be a good time. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is allowing residents and non-residents to fish in the state's waters without a license Saturday and Sunday.

Michigan has offered Winter Free Fishing Weekend every year since 1994 to promote awareness of the state's water resources and fishing opportunities, which include more than 3,000 miles of Great Lakes shoreline, 11,000 inland lakes and thousands of miles of rivers and streams.

To encourage involvement in this year's Winter Free Fishing Weekend, organized activities are being scheduled in communities across the state by schools, park operators, businesses and others. A list is available at http://www.michigan.gov/freefishing.

All other regulations still apply this weekend, although licenses aren't required.
