Mid-Michigan Businesses Boom During Valentine's Day

Posted: Updated:

Whether you want to pick up flowers, chocolates or wine, you may have to wait in line.

"I have not seen it like this ever before. No its true, This is wild," said Susan Melfi, customer at Fabiano's.

Businesses in Mid-Michigan are booming and have been keeping busy all week. Plenty of stores had lines outside the door early this morning.

"Valentine's Day is a great day," said Matt Rhodes, Owner at Dusty's Wine Cellar. "Because luckily we have so many different products we got our bakery doing sugar cookies. Thousands of those. We got our pies, our torts and of course wine. And the restaurant, one of the busiest days of the year."

"We've at least doubled what we've done last year within maybe the first day," said Samantha Blair from Fabiano's. "Usually Thursday, Friday are really busy but this week we've been busy all week."

Although the holiday lasts only one day, many have been prepping for it for weeks.

"We don't like to wait until the last minute, but Vic's been making lots of chocolate and we started to package it two weeks ago and still doing it today," said Barb Spagnulo, from Spagnulo's chocolates.

Many business says that because of the weather we've had this holiday season, they didn't make the profit they usually do during Christmas. But the weather seems to be letting up and they are making up for the business on Valentine's Day.

"Its nice this weekend seeing the weather clearing up for us not to have to deal with it. I feel bad for all the retailers down south," said Rhodes.

No matter what you decide to buy on Valentines day, some say it's all about the special someone you share it with.

"The best part about valentines day...seeing people celebrating, having a good time," said Rhodes.
