TMSG: Look Good Feel Better Program Comes To Sparrow

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Just in time for Valentine's Day, an inspirational program came to Sparrow Clinton Hospital to help area women battling through cancer and chemo.

Putting on her make-up, her mind was made up. Denise Clark of St. Johns was ready to look good and feel better.

"I have a new wig and blonde hair," Clark laughs. "It used to be black before!"

The inspirational program, put on through a partnership between area hospitals, the American Cancer Society and the National Cosmetology Association, offers women like Denise the chance to face cancer by putting on a new face.

"You gotta focus on what makes you happy. Chemo was not a picnic, but good things do happen in life and you need to focus on those things," she said.

Cosmetologist and Program Volunteer Carol Walker believes Denise is well on her way to literally and figuratively looking at cancer and herself in a more positive light.

"You can just see the difference it makes in them. I had cancer at 25, so it's close to my heart, it's something i feel really deeply about," said Walker.

"You can meet people that are experiencing what you are going through so you don't feel so alone," said Clark.

They can now look good and feel better, just what the doctor ordered for these inspirational women.
