Annual Luncheon Celebrates Mid-Michigan Pastors

Posted: Updated:

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) -- Hundreds of people gathered at the Kellogg Conference Center Saturday afternoon for the 6th annual Pastor's Salute Luncheon.

The event honors pastors for their dedication and commitment as religious leaders. Church members send cards, gifts and letters, to let their pastor know how much they care.

"I just really want people to let their pastor know how much they appreciate them and how much they love them because pastors are ridiculed a lot," said Cathy Morgan, the director of Divine Connection. "They always talk about what [pastors] don't do, but they don't talk about what they do behind the doors. They do so much and this is our time to give back to them."

During this year's celebration, 32 pastors walked the red carpet with their spouses and enjoyed the day's music, food, fun and fellowship.

Per tradition, Senator Debbie Stabenow stopped by for the event. "Each of the churches do so much for their congregations. Not only as spiritual advisors and leaders, but reaching out and helping people, whether it's encouragement to go to school or stay in school, whether it's helping with the food banks or in the community. Together the pastors are a very important force to support our families and to really improve our quality of life in Lansing," she said.

Following this year's salute, Morgan said she plans to take the event to Atlanta, Georgia and come back to mid-Michigan in a couple years.
