MSU v. U of M Rivalry Rocks The Radio

Posted: Updated:

HASLETT, Mich. (WLNS) - It's a storyline that doesn't just play out well on the court, it rocks the radio waves.

Every Friday, Jack Ebling and Tom Crawford co-host "The Drive with Jack Ebling."

The duo share a love of the game, but cheer for two different Big Ten Conference teams.

"I attended Michigan State in 1969 and basically haven't left Lansing since," Ebling said. "Meanwhile, my partner Tom Crawford has been a fixture at U of M since is it 1864 or 1964?" "1964," Crawford said.

Quick wits and clever comebacks make their radio show a hit and listeners love the rivalry because they can relate.

"If you're a Michigan State fan, chances are pretty good that you're going to see a Michigan person who can hammer you if your team doesn't do well and visa versa," Ebling said.

While the show rolls, the radio banter doesn't stop, but these two say they'll stay silent on Sunday.

"We don't talk the day of the game," Ebling said. "It's a moratorium," Crawford said.

While the two take constant digs at each other on air, they say the rivalry is just good-natured fun. Their game predictions?

"The Wolverines are going to come out on top," Crawford said. "68-64 Wolverines."

"Michigan fans are going to get their biggest surprise when Michigan State goes into Ann Arbor and comes out with a 69-66 win," Ebling said.

"Maybe we can bring out the brooms perhaps and a sweep for John Beilein's club," Crawford said. "You can get some from Tom Izzo because he swept Michigan so often, they have about 50 brooms in the closet," Ebling said.

A split? Or a season sweep? The storyline will play out Sunday on WLNS-TV 6.
