Four People Spend A Night Outside In Doghouses

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - The winter weather can be hard on everyone and that includes dogs.

So to get a feel for what the animals go through, if and when they sleep outside, four workers from the Michigan Humane Society Investigation Department and emergency rescue teamsdecided to spend a night in a doghouse in the cold.

They had straw to use to fight the cold, but the workers still felt the chill.

"I think after this experience, I have a little bit better understanding of what dogs are experiencing when they're out in these temperatures in the doghouse, and the straw, you know, the straw does work pretty good as insulation to keep them warm. The important thing is making sure that the doghouse has sufficient straw," said Stacey Bean, Rescue Driver, Michigan Humane Societ.

After the four rolled out of the doghouses they say without a doubt dogs suffer if they have to stay outside and that even when there is a doghouse and straw dogs should really stay indoors.
