Senator Rick Jones Wants To Remove The "R" Word From MI Law

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, MI (WLNS) - State Senator Rick Jones has introduced a bill to remove the "R" word from Michigan law.

Senator Jones says "the word "retard" is offensive and has no place in law."

"As a state board member of Special Olympics Michigan I am an advocate for all people with special needs," said Senator Jones.

Senator Jones announced the bill earlier this week and then answered questions on his Facebook page. When asked how many times the "R" word is in Michigan law, he answered 17.

The bill is currently in the Senate awaiting a vote.
