Prison Escapee Michael Elliot's Extradition Back to Michigan Delayed

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Michael Elliot's attorney has requested a habeus corpus hearing, which an Indiana judge granted, delaying his extradition back to Michigan.

Elliot escaped from a multi-level security prison in Ionia on February 2nd, took an Ionia County woman hostage and fled to Indiana.

The Michigan Department of Corrections requested that Elliot be returned to Michigan, however Elliot fought the extradtion and was granted a formal hearing before a judge this afternoon. The judge had the authority to extradite Elliot back to Michigan, however ruled in favor of Elliot's attorney.

Because Elliot took legal action against the MDOC extradition request, the matter was bound over to Governor Snyder, who made a formal request to Mike Pence, Indiana's governor, to return Elliot.

Elliot will now appear in an Indiana court on March 13th, for his habeus corpus hearing.

Reporter Joe Khalil will have more on this story tonight on Six News at Six.
