Officials Discuss Water Quality Issues

(WLNS) - State officials and water specialists joined members of the Michigan Department of Environmental quality to discuss issues that could affect the state's water quality.

Governor Snyder plans to put significant resources into the DEQ's budget to deal with those issues.

Officials say the last time investments were made in the natural resources of Michigan was 25 years ago.

"Water defines Michigan, it is fundamental to our future success and we want to ensure that we are providing leadership on these water issues because of it's importance on the citizens of michigan," said Dan Wyant, Director, MI DEQ.

The group also talked about programs designed to address challenges that come with increased development and manufacturing in Michigan.

And controling invasive species like Asian Carp.
