Fans Celebrate After Michigan Beats State

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WLNS) -- A new leader takes over the Big Ten and Wolverine fans feel the glory.

"I love it because it's been a long time since we've beaten Michigan State twice in one year," said University of Michigan fan Mack Johnson.

For the second time this season, Michigan fans watched their Wolverines bring home a win, while Michigan State fans saw their Spartans lose yet again.

"We were here when State lost last time, so we had to swallow our pride a little bit here," said MSU graduate Jeff Stachowiak.

Maize and blue not only ruled on the court, fans cheered along at Ann Arbor bars.

Scott Podell came all the way from New Jersey just to watch the big rivalry game with his son, Aaron Podell.

"I got to watch the Michigan, Michigan State game. Life is beautiful," Scott said.

Michigan basketball has beat State six out of the last eight times.

"It's always great to beat another Big Ten rival," Aaron said.

Before Sunday's game, many MSU fans felt confident.

"You had everybody that you needed and you still couldn't get the job done," Johnson said.

"It was just a hard one to lose to Michigan at the end of the season," said MSU graduate Lauren Schleh.

To ease the pain, some Spartan fans focused on football. "We're Rose Bowl champs. It's alright," said Stachowiak.

While Sunday's loss may hurt some Spartan fan's pride, both teams still have a shot to take the top conference spot.

"Michigan State is one of the best teams out there in the country. I think that, with Michigan beating them today, it shows that they can make a long run in the tournament," Johnson said.
