Firefighters Rescue Puppy From Burning Home

Posted: Updated:

HASLETT, MI (WLNS) - Merdian Twp. firefighers came to the rescue of a puppy that was trapped in a burning home Monday.

It happened around 10:30 a.m. Monday at a house on Teakwood Rd. in Haslett.

No one was home, but fire officials found a puppy hiding under a bed. The puppy was having trouble breathing and was given oxygen. Neighbors took the puppy to a local veterinarian.

Officials say it's all part of the job.

"You know we're here. Life conservation is really our focus whether it's a human or an animal and animals are just as important to people as people are, so we knew there was a dog in there and we've got some equipment that's been able to provide to us to help dogs breath and give them oxygen so we're doing that," said Bill Priese, Meridian Twp. Fire Dept.

The puppy is being treated at the MSU Veterinary Clinic. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
