Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - A 35-year-old woman is in the hospital after leading police on a high-speed chase. The chase ended when the Delhi Twp. woman crashed the car she was driving into a tree.

It happened around 2:50 p.m. Tuesday on Aurelius Rd. at Willoughby Rd.

Ingham County officers tried to pull the woman over, but she sped off on Aurelius Rd. towards Jolly Rd. Police chased the car about half a mile. The woman reached speeds of about 90 mph.

Police say the driver ran a red light, lost control of her car and hit a utility pole. She then crashed into a tree and went airborne.

The woman was taken to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries, but she is expected to survive.

Police do not know why the driver was trying to get away.
