Who's Responsible For Pothole Damage?

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) -- As temperatures continue to freeze and thaw, roads have crumbled beneath our wheels.

We know who's responsible for repairing our roads, but who gets the blame for damange done to our vehicles when potholes aren't patched? State funding may help some drivers, but the rules are strict.

You have to prove the pothole you hit had been there for 30 days or more without reasonable repair and then you have to file a claim for coverage.

To file a claim with the...
  • Michigan Department of Transportation click here.
  • Ingham County Road Commission call (517) 676-9722.
  • City of Lansing call the Public Service Department at (517) 483-4455.
