Towing Company Owner Grateful After Firefighters Put Out Flames

Posted: Updated:

IONIA COUNTY, MI (WLNS) - The owner of an Ionia County towing company is looking back and feeling grateful. John Hoppes says he's very grateful to the 11 fire departments who spent hours overnight and into Monday morning battling a fire that destroyed one of his buildings.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Reed and Hoppes Towing and Equipment, located on Grand River Ave., west of Portland.

Flames took over the building. The owner told 6 News the fire also destroyed a few trucks and equipment being stored there.

No one was inside the building at the time. Other buildings were in danger, but Hoppes says fire fighters did an amazing job keeping the fire contained and putting it out.

There's no word yet on the cause of the fire.

Despite the fire, Reed and Hoppes is open for business.
