PERRY, Mich. (AP) - Authorities have released the name and hometown of a 23-year-old man who was walking when a freight train struck and killed him in the Shiawassee County community of Perry.

Perry police say the victim was Joseph Holloway of Durand.

The Canadian National Railway Co. operates a freight line that runs through Perry.

CN spokeswoman Lindsay Fedchyshyn in Concord, Ontario, says that one of its freight trains was westbound on the line when it struck a male pedestrian at a crossing in Perry about 1 a.m. Saturday.

She says the crossing's gate, warning bells and flashing lights were working at the time.

Perry is about 20 miles east-northeast of Lansing.
