Snyder Campaign Wants Commercial Removed

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - The Rick Snyder for Governor campaign is asking television stations to stop running a commercial from democratic challenger Mark Schauer because the campaign claims the commercial is a lie.

6 News Capitol Correspondent Tim Skubick reports this has to do with charges that the governor cut a billion dollars from education.

Not once but twice, democratic challenger Mark Schauer appeared in commercials suggesting the governor gave tax cuts to business and as Schauer says, "he paid for those tax breaks by cutting one billion dollars from education."

The governor's re-election team objected and asked television stations to kill the ad.

Clark Hill law firm called the commercial a lie.

The administrations former budget director concedes that cuts were made to the school aid formula but when you look at the overall education spending:

John Nixon, Former State Budget Director: "suffice it to say the Schauer campaign is sticking to the billion dollar charge, while raising another charge that may sound familiar."

When democratic Governor Jennifer granholm ran against GOP challenger Dick Devos, she charged him with laying off workers in Michigan while creating jobs in China, the message helped to defeat Mr. Devos.

The commercial also says, "Rick Snyder used the money to cut taxes on business even if they send jobs overseas."

So far the Snyder campaign has not responded to that.
