Agriculture Industry Members Optimistic On Outlook

Posted: Updated:

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - A newly released survey of Michigan farmers and food processors has found that they're optimistic about the future of the agricultural industry.

The results of the second Michigan Agriculture and Food Index were released Tuesday by economists from the Michigan State University Product Center. The index was based on a December survey and is being discussed as part of Agriculture and Natural Resources Week in East Lansing.

Chris Peterson, director of the MSU Product Center and lead investigator on the project, said in a statement that the results show industry leaders are bullish about future prospects and are gaining confidence in the state's ability to handle growth.

The survey will be repeated every six months in part to track agricultural leaders' perceptions of the business climate.
