A.G. Warns Against Propane Gouging

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, MI (WLNS) - Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette is warning suppliers not to take advantage of consumers as the state continues to battle the winter temperatures.

Schuette noted the current cold snap and varying propane prices linked to demand and lower supply.  He reminded suppliers by saying "we are watching and will not hesitate to take action if the law is broken" in terms of price gouging and price fixing.

The Attorney General said his office has received "hundreds of complaints" about propane suppliers that are being reviewed as investigations continue into alleged illegal business practices.

The current statewide average for propane is reported to be approximately $3.20 per gallon.

Schuette says if consumers are aware of possible violations to contact the Attorney General's Consumer Protection division at 1-877-765-8388 or on line at www.michigan.gov/ag.
