Great Lakes Water Levels Expected To Rise

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)- The extreme cold weather we have seen this winter and the above average snowfall may make us unhappy, but the Great Lakes will take the extra water.

Federal officials say the melting snow and water that comes along with the large snowfall, will bring the Great Lakes closer to normal water levels.

It was only 14 months ago that Lake Michigan and Lake Huron reached their lowest levels ever recorded.

Officials say the heavy ice covering much of the lakes is slowing down evaporation and the large snowfall will help the great lakes regain water.
