Some Uncomfortable After Steward Ave. Arson Suspect Released On Bond

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, MI (WLNS) - A 25-year-old man could face up to life in prison if convicted of first degree arson from a Tues., March 4 fire in Jackson.

Rodney McKee is now out on bond and as 6 News learned that move is unsettling for those who used to live there.

They've lost everything and now this.

"He get's to go home and sleep on his comfortable mattress when we have nowhere to stay," says a man who used to live at the home in 700 block of Steward Ave.

"It's ungodly that they even let him post bond and get out, it makes you wonder what our system is all about"

6 News has learned new details regarding McKee and his connection to one of the people who lived there.

"We do believe there could be ties to drug involvement associated with this entire incident," said Lt. Elmer Hitt, Jackson Police Department.

Police say a woman told them an argument occurred between her and McKee recently.

"We had previously called the cops the day before because he was harassing us," said a man who lived there who did not want to be identified.

Police say then they couldn't arrest McKee then because they didn't have anything to charge him on.

"If somebody's facing 30 to life and he's out on bond right now only on $2,500, he will run."

If you're looking for a list of county jail inmates and if they're released, an app called Vine-Mobile can be downloaded for Android. For iPhone, another ap called Mobile Patrol will let you access that information.
