Prayer Group Concerned Over Zero Tolerance Policy

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, MI (WLNS) - Clergy from across the state gathered at the Capitol Tuesday to pray for the young people in the state.

They want lawmakers to update the zero tolerance policy which they say is getting too many students expelled for small reasons.

In turn the expulsion is keeping them out of school and pushing them into more criminal situations.

"What we find is that over 60 percent of all the prisoners in the state don't have a high school education, so that means that what happens is that the kids who get the out of school suspensions, they don't stay in schools and work towards their diplomas," said R.J. Hronek, praying for lawmakers.

Tuesday's event is part of Truth and Justice Tuesdays, which runs through the month of March.
