Live At The Ballpark? Mayor Calls Project A "Home Run"

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)- Plans to build new condos above the outfield a minor league ballpark give the phrase "home game" a whole new meaning.

City leaders in Lansing today unveiled plans to build the "Outfield" - a building with 80 units and a year-round restaurant - at Cooley Law School Stadium.

The stadium is home to the Lansing Lugnuts.

"This is a home run for the city," said Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero.

The project still needs the approval of several groups, including the Lansing city council. If approved by May 1st, the stadium improvements should be finished by 2015, and construction on the Outfield should be wrapped up by opening day in 2016.

And yes, windows facing the ballpark will be reinforced to protect residents against home runs.

"I think we'll factor that in," said Mayor Bernero.
