CrimeStoppers: Suspects Wanted After Assaulting And Robbing Man Twice

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Officials are asking for your help to find a suspect who they say robbed a man twice and stole his rare coins.

Within a span of six months, a Lansing Township homeowner was robbed twice. The first happened in April of 2012 when he wasn't home, and the second time was in October of 2012 when he was physically assaulted and robbed.

It happened in a neighborhood south of Willow Highway, when a man claiming to be delivering a pizza knocked on the victims door, then officials say he attacked the homeowner on his front porch.

The robbers in both incidents took some of his rare and domestic coins, some dating back to the 1700's, and worth thousands of dollars.

Officials say that the robbers in the second incident struck the homeowner in the head and body with an object from the home, multiple times, and then placed him in a back room of the home.

"Speaking with the victim, it appears he would spend time at the Westgate Tavern, not too far from his former residence and he would talk about this coin collection there and would tip waitresses with some of the coins he had," said Officer Jon Miller, Lansing Township Police.

Reward signs created by the victim's family were posted around town and at the Westgate in an effort to encourage someone to come forward with a tip to solve the theft.

If you have any information about this rare coin theft, please call Crime Stoppers at (517)-483-STOP. There is up to a $6,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
