Public Voices Opinions on Red Cedar Development Project

Posted: Updated:
LANSING, MICH. (WLNS) -

Tonight the public had a chance to voice their ideas a public forum meeting for a big project in the city of Lansing.

It was the first of two meetings held at the Foster Community Center to where people could share their thoughts on the Red Cedar Development Project, previously known as the Red Cedar Golf Course.

And a new vision for the course will someday have a little bit of everything.

"We're going to have a major medical facility, we're going to have a hotel," said Joel Ferguson, from Ferguson development. "We're going to have a number of restaurants, market rate housing, apartments and town houses and also we're going to have some student housing on the site also."

And officials with the project were all ears to residents concerns.

"What we're really looking for is some public input to seek some opinion as what they think should go there, you know,"said Pat Lindermann, Drain Commissioner with Ingham County.

Some have nothing bad to say about the project.

"Its bringing a lot to our area. Its just going to add to our Michigan ave and the neighborhood surrounding," said Nancy Mahlow, Lansing resident.

While others have a few reservations.

"I'm a bicyclist. I also drive, decent transportation. I don't want the project to affect current things that are going on" said Mike Unsworth, Haslett resident

Although the project isn't expected to begin until Spring of 2015, some are excited about the potential economic growth the project will bring.

I'm glad to see this huge turnout so that we can get it moving and actually have voices to put to the projects and they're going to listen to what everybody has to say.

If you missed the first meeting and want to talk about your ideas for the project, the next meeting is on April 15th at 6pm at the Plymouth Congregational Church. Thats on East Grand River. All are welcome to attend.
