Woman Who Quadrupled Own Salary Calls It Quits

Posted: Updated:

The Jackson County woman who voted to quadruple her own salary has now quit her job.

According to our media partners at the Jackson Citizen Patriot, Blackman Township Treasurer Sherry Brockie retired on Tuesday, eight days after she voted to increase her own salary from $12,600 to $49,260.

Brockie did not comment to the Cit Pat, which reached out to her by phone and e-mail.

According to the township's website, Brockie was in her fourth term as treasurer.

The township clerk also saw his salary quadrupled and the supervisor saw his salary doubled. They both voted against the move, which was added to the agenda after the board meeting started last week.

The motion still passed by a vote of 4-2. Supporters say the officials worked full time hours in their part-time positions.

Some Blackman Township residents, who launched a petition drive to rescind the raises, says it is continuing to gather signatures. They have about 900 so far, and need 1,500 to put the question on the ballot.
