JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) - Authorities say a food worker at a Michigan prison has been arrested after trying to smuggle two large bags of marijuana.
Corrections Department spokesman Russ Marlan says that the bust occurred Wednesday at the Cotton prison in Jackson. The man works for a company that was hired in December to handle meals at prisons.
The state's relationship with Aramark Correctional Services has been rocky. Three dozen employees have been banned from prisons for various violations. Critics say privatizing food service has threatened prison security.
The Corrections Department has defended the three-year deal as way to save millions of dollars.
