Special Meeting Held To Accept Or Reject Treasurer Letter of Resignation

Posted: Updated:
BLACKMAN TOWNSHIP MICH. (WLNS) -

Today could be the last time you see the nameplate "Sherry Brockie" as treasurer in Blackman Township. Things could change at a special board meeting tonight.

She resigned last week after serving nearly 15 years in the position. This is after the board voted two weeks ago to raise hers, Clerk David Sercombe and Supervisor Peter Jancek's salary in a four to two vote.

Jancek and Sercombe voted against the pay raise. Jancek says he didn't want to see his salary more than double from 24 thousand to 49 thousand.

"We all knew the compensation level for these positions when we took office and if we weren't comfortable with that or felt that it was inadequate, we shouldn't of run for office," said Jancek.

At the meeting tonight, the board will decide whether to accept her letter of resignation. If they don't she'll have to keep her position until 2016.

"It has to be a majority to accept her letter and if its not a majority then she remains the treasurer," said Jancek. "And she is currently the treasurer at this time even though she turned in her letter."

But this isn't the first time Brockie has pulled something like this. Back in November she resigned from the position because of "recent changes in health care". But then she pulled her letter of resignation just days later on December 10th.

Now residents will have to wait and see if she does it again, or says goodbye to the position for the last time.
