Government Looks To End Flood Insurance Program

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - Thousands of Michigan homeowners are facing soaring premiums because of a $24 billion debt.

The federal government wants to end the decades-old National Flood Insurance program.

The program created low-price insurance policies for houses built before 1975 in flood-prone areas.

More than 11,000 policies for primary residences could see premiums go up 18 percent per year.

About 2,600 business and vacation home premiums will rise 25 percent.
