Funding For A New Police Station Expected This Summer

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, MI (WLNS) - Lansing's Mayor Virg Bernero says funding for a new police station is in the works.

It's all outlined in his 2015 budget proposal, which is set to take effect July 1, 2014.

In the report the mayor says public safety remains a top priority.

Funds will be set aside to keep 11 police officers in uniform whose grants were set to expire in June.

The mayor is opimistic about having a surplus for the first time in over a decade, but says now Lansing's future relies on answering one big question:

"Are you content surviving or do you want to thrive and that we're only going to do as a region and for that you have to look at example like Indianapolis, Madison, Louisville, they got together and decide they were better together than apart," said Virg Bernero, Mayor of Lansing.

Tonight on 6 News we'll have more on the mayor's proposed $118 million budget and what role his financial "health team" will have over the next year.
