LANSING TWP., Mich. (WLNS)– The Lansing Township Board of Trustees on Tuesday unanimously approved aresolution in support of regional representation on the Lansing Board of Waterand Light's Board of Commissioners.

"The Board of Water and Light customers are 60 percent City of Lansingand 40 percent from the outlying townships and East Lansing," said Lansing TownshipSupervisor Kathleen Rodgers. "And we feel that it's important that the other 40percent of the customers of the Board of Water and Light have a voice on thatboard."

Currently, BWL commissioners only represent the City of Lansing, but Commissioner Dennis Louney and CEO Peter Lark saidthe board is open to more voices. "Speaking as a board, we're not opposed toother municipalities having some type of representation," said Louney. "But really, that's a discussion that needs to be handled by the mayor and the city of Lansing in regards to howa regional utility [should] operate."

Mayor Virg Bernero is incharge of appointing commissioners, and has expressed support for expandedrepresentation. Changes to the board's composition would require an amendedcity charter approved by voters.

The City of East Lansing as well as Meridian and Deltatownships are also pushing for more seats on the board.
