MSU & Police Warn Against Rowdy Celebrations

Posted: Updated:

EAST LANSING, MI  (Nick Perreault) - Michigan State will once again be in the national spotlight Friday as the men's basketball team hopes to advance to the elite eight in the NCAA tournament.

Now University officials and East Lansing police are working hard to make sure that's the only reason MSU takes center stage this weekend.

A history of out-of-control celebrations and fires has marked similar events in recent years.

Captain Jeff Murphy of the East Lansing police says that the fires after the December Big Ten football championship proved that even bystanders can become part of the problem.

Shutting access to streets is not a solution because it can violate people's free movement.

Murphy adds that there will be a heavy police presence and lots of cameras documenting the night's events.

The Michigan State basketball team is heading to the sweet 16 and they play on Friday just before 10:00pm on TBS.
