President Obama Meets Pope Francis In Rome

(WLNS) - For the very first time Thursday, President Obama met with Pope Francis.

The leaders used translators to discuss social and economic issues as well as world peace.

The private meeting took place in at the Vatican and lasted almost an hour.

The meeting ended with a gift exchange. Pope Francis gave the President a book of his writings.

President Obama said he would likely read it in the oval office when he is frustrated.

Among presidents making an official visit to the Vatican, President Obama is ninth.

President Obama said it's a great honor and invited the Pontiff to the White House.
