Snyder Plans for Europe Trip With Focus On Cars

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, MI (AP) - Gov. Rick Snyder departs for his second trade mission to Europe on Saturday with a focus on the auto industry.

Snyder tells The Associated Press the weeklong trip to Italy and Germany will include meetings with executives from companies including Fiat and Eissmann Automotive. He says he'll focus on developing relationships to help increase exports from Michigan and encourage foreign investments in the state.

The Republican governor also calls the trip an "opportunity to clear up old information" abroad and promote Michigan's recovering economy.

State officials say Michigan is home to more than 350 German companies and more than 40 Italian companies that employ about 72,000 Michigan residents.

The delegation traveling with Snyder includes Michigan's senior automotive adviser and representatives from the Michigan Economic Development Corp.
