Lansing Mayor Isn't Ruling Out Run For Congress

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - Lansing mayor Virg Bernero may now be keeping his options open on running to replace 8th District Congressman Mike Rogers.

That comes after Bernero apparently made his intentions clear in a official statement.

"At this time I intend to continue serving the people of Lansing and doing everything I can to drive the manufacturing resurgence that is creating new jobs and a renewed prosperity for citizens on Main Street here in Michigan and across America.", said Bernero in his initial reaction to the Rogers announcement.

6 News contacted Bernero this afternoon and the mayor apparently was reconsidering his options.

In referring to a bid to run for Rogers' seat the mayor's chief of staff Randy Hannon says "He (Bernero) hasn't ruled it out."

Two Democrats have already announced they will campaign to replace Rogers.
