Rep. Dave Camp To Retire

Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON (AP) - Rep. Dave Camp, the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, says he will not seek another term.

The Michigan Republican said in a statement Monday that he will retire after 12 terms in the House. He was term-limited as chairman of the committee.

Gov. Rick Snyder was quick to respond to Camp's decision.  "I have long admired Dave Camp's tireless dedication to reforming taxes and restoring fiscal responsibility, and under his leadership as chair of the powerful Ways and Means Committee, he has helped guide our country's economic, health and social policies.", said Snyder. "Dave Camp is truly a man of the people, and his commitment to his constituents and to customer service has helped make him one of the most respected members of Michigan's Congressional delegation for more than 20 years.

Camp's north-central Michigan district is strongly Republican and the GOP is expected to hold the seat.

Camp is the second senior Michigan Republican to announce his retirement. Rep. Mike Rogers said Friday he would retire.
