Mike Bishop Joins Hunt For 8th Congressional Seat

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - Republican Mike Bishop today is announcing that he's running for Mike Rogers' 8th District Congressional seat.

Bishop committed to continuing that fight in Washington if elected to the U.S. House.

"President Obama is taking this country in the wrong direction and along the way, has all but ignored our Constitution. We need to cut spending, lower taxes, and return this government to the people where it belongs. As your Congressman, I am committed to helping create the environment to create jobs. We need sensible, common-sense conservative leadership, and I can bring that to Washington," says Bishop.

Bishop is an Oakland County resident. He was first elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in 1999 and the State Senate in 2003. Due to term limits he was unable to seek re-election in 2010 to the Senate.

6 News Capital correspondent Tim Skubick has more on the race developing in the 8th District.  Last Friday Mike Rogers announced he would not seek re-election when his current term expires.
