(WLNS) - Everyone expected Mark Schauer to select a woman for a running mate and he went into vote-rich Oakland County to do it.
Lisa Brown is the Oakland County clerk, she's been there for two years.
She also has four years in the Michigan House.
When you compare her experience to other women who ran for lt. governor she does not have as much but she counters that with this:
"I'd like to look at the experience that our current governor had. He had no legislative experience, you can see how that is playing out in the legislature right now. He can't get things done with his own party. Mark and I have experience not just in the legislature but working in a bi-partisan manner."
Ms. Brown is the eighth women to run for this office and somebody who has been there and done that has some advice.
Southfield Mayor Brenda Lawrence ran with Virg Benero and she says Ms. Brown will be the fixer.
"She is to be working hard to plug any holes, to fill any gaps and stay focused and encouraging."
The Democratic ticket promises a top priority will be fixing the roads but, Mr. Schauer would only say the state needs to find a dedicated revenue source. He side-stepped saying a tax hike would be required. He would not say those words.
"I'm not prepared to talk about particular ways to solve the problem."
Reporter: Would that be politically dangerous to do it?
Schauer: This in not about politics. This is about leadership.
And now the grind begins. Ms. Brown will continue in her day job, and Mr. Schauer will continue with his job to make sure Governor Snyder does not have his job next November 7th.
