Controlled Burn Aims To Help Sparrow Habitat In Meridian Township

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - A controlled burn in Meridian Township Tuesday is expected to improve the habitat for the Henslow's sparrow.

The bird prefers prairie habitat like what is found at the Davis-Foster Land Preserve. The 100-acre site is also home to a variety of wildlife.

The Henslow's sparrow is an endangered species in Michigan.

The goal of the burn was to kill invasive species and rejuvenate the soil so wildflowers and native plants could thrive.
