Coroner: Body Found In Indiana Is Michigan Doctor

Posted: Updated:

KALAMAZOO, MI (WLNS) - An autopsy has determined that a body found in an Indiana lake is that of a Michigan doctor missing since December.

It's the answer two a four-month mystery that some expected, but certainly not an answer anyone wanted. The Porter County Coroner's office confirmed the body pulled from Indiana's Lake Charles is that of 30-year-old Taleka Patrick.

Patrick was last seen on Dec. 5, 2013. Her car was found 35 feet off I-94, directly south of Lake Charles. There are a few interesting elements of the investigation.

Officials say Patrick's body showed no signs of trauma and investigators say at this point, the evidence seems to suggest Patrick may have drowned.

According to officials, Patrick was heading to St. Louis to stay with an old friend. It is unknown why she left her car off of I-94. The sheriff there says he thinks she was trying to get away from the area her car was found in and may have fallen into the nearby lake.

Michigan authorities say Patrick behaved strangely and erratically with colleagues and others in the hours before her disappearance.
