Friends, Family Remember Princess Lacey

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, MI (WLNS) - For many they say it was her smile that made fall in love with Lacey Holsworth.

The 8-year-old, also known as Princess Lacey lost her battle with cancer early Wednesday morning.

Lacey had a special bond with MSU basketball player Adreian Payne.

Payne and Lacey's friendship started when the team visited her in the hospital two years ago.

MSU Senior Forward Payne said while he's missing Lacey, he's remembering her smile, which he says made America fall in love with her. "She taught me how to fight through everything with a smile on my face even when things were going wrong. I'm a better man because of her," said Payne.

Lacey suffered from neuro-blastoma, an aggressive form of nerve cell cancer.

MSU Basketball Coach Tom Izzo says that didn't stop her from being an inspiration to all.

"She taught me, she taught my family. She taught my kids and she taught my players," said Izzo.

Lacey's father Matt said lacey died in their home in St. Johns, with quote "her mommy and daddy holding her in their arms."

A memorial service will be held on April 17 at the Breslin Center.
