Capital City Film Festival Kicks Off In Lansing

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, MI (WLNS) - If you're a film buff or just looking for something to do this weekend, the Capital City Film Festival starts Thursday in Lansing.

Lights and the grand red carpet. Well, a segment of it for now because they are just setting up for the 4th Annual Capital City Film Festival.

"We're very excited this year, we have four world premieres and nine Michigan premieres, and somewhere around 15-20 filmmakers will actually be in attendance," said Payai Ravani, Coordinator, Capital City Film Festival.

You heard that right. You can watch the movies with the people who actually created them and even ask them questions afterwards.

The movie "You or a Loved One" is a part of the festival and both the director and the producer will be there to soak up the audience reaction.

"We're really excited to have our world premiere at Capital City because Capital City is kind of the perfect festival, we were really excited when we got it," said Matt Mercer, Director, '"You or a Loved One" movie.

The story is about a guy who completes a drug trial, but has formed a dependency on the drug.

Lead actor and writer Chris Bouffard says from his experience he thought, "that was really strange. I thought that there was a story there. And the girl? Well there's always gotta be a girl.

Two films, Alive Inside and Girl will screen Thursday night at the Lansing Center to kick off the festival.

"We have a lot more than we've ever had before, we have a lot more filmmakers flying in from all over for this festival. We're definitely taking it to the next level this year," said Ravani.

If the red carpet and films haven't sold you yet, there will be a line up of great musicians throughout the festival as well.

The festival runs through Sunday, April 13. For more information on times and tickets, visit Capital City Film Fest or call (517) 483-4058.
