Price Tag For Fixing State Roads

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - One week after House Speaker Jase Bolger announced a road funding plan a state agency says it'll need all the help it can get to find a permanent solution.

Michigan's Infrastructure and Transportation Association says around 35 percent of state roads are in poor condition. Recent studies show the state needs about two billion dollars each year just to maintain the roads.

M.I.T.A. officals say both the speakers plan and legislatures setting aside 215 million dollars in March is a good start.

"I think they are ready to act, they need encouragement from citizens to make sure they do act and we're just imploring them to act on an urgent basis, again the situation isn't getting any better," said Lance Binoniemi of MITA.

But lawmakers need to do more when they return from break.

We reached out to MDOT and they say at this point construction projects planned in mid-Michigan are on schedule and funding won't be an issue.
