Stranger Buys New Bikes For Life O'Riley Girls

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, MI (WLNS) - First they lost almost everything they owned in a fire, then they forced to move when the health department shut down Life O'Riley Mobile Home Park.

A few weeks later their daughters' bikes went missing.

6 News Nick Perreault explains how a random act of kindness has changed their lives.

This Lansing woman says riding bikes is part of being a kid.

"When I was a child, getting bikes was the most important thing that happened to me, the thing that I remember and the thought that these little girls couldn't be out and play like kids should be able to play was heartbreaking to me"

It was heartbreaking to learn that Terra Denikes daughters' bikes were taken from their shed at Life O' Riley and that two women facing larceny charges may have sold them for scrap.

"They were fairly new bikes and they barely got to ride them," said Denikes.

Police say the two told Life O'Riley residents they were part of group trying to clean up.

"It had an easy fix and I wanted to take care of it for them"

So this total stranger set up a surprise. Mom told the girls they were getting pictures taken, but it didn't take long for Heather, 3 and Kara, 6 to figure it out.

"They love riding bikes, they love being outside and now they can ride their bikes," said Denikes.

Mom couldn't be happier and 6-year-old Kara would agree.

"I like DORA on it because that is my favorite show," said Kara.

This woman says it's all about paying it forward.

It was "worth every minute of the time it took to put this together."

It's certainly not something that you can put a price tag on.
