UPDATE: Icy Roads Slow Morning Commute

Posted: Updated:

UPDATED 7:53 a.m. - US-127 in both directions and I-496 in both directions have been re-opened to traffic.  Police advise drivers to use caution as bridges and overpasses might still be slick.  Salt trucks continue to work on bridges and main roads.

(WLNS) - The overnight snow that came through mid-Michigan has left icy roads and treacherous conditions for drivers.

Just before 6:00 a.m. police shut US-127 in both directions near the I-496 interchange due to multiple accidents.

At 6:45 a.m. police closed I-496 between Martin Luther King and US-127.

Trucks have been out salting bridges and main roads since about 2:00 a.m.  Salting efforts continue at this hour.

Drivers are advised to use caution and slow down on their morning commute.

6 News will have the latest on the road conditions online, on Facebook and Twitter.
