Tax Day Scramble Begins

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - Deadline day is here to file your 2013 taxes.

For those of you who haven't filed returns yet there's still a little bit of time. You have until midnight.

And if you can't make the deadline you're encouraged to file an extension.

Many tax professionals suggest if you aren't confident about having all your documents together before the deadline tonight an extension may be your best bet.

Extension forms are available on www.irs.gov.

You can either fill it out yourself or with a tax professional.

But remember: if you owe money on your taxes an extension doesn't mean you can pay them late.

"An extension only gives you time to file your paperwork. If you got your taxes done, you might as well file them. If you think you owe $5000, then you have to pay $5000 with the extension," says H & R Block tax advisor Deborah Fox.

H & R Block is one of many places in the area offering assistance throughout the day today many of which will be open through midnight tonight.
