(WLNS) - The Lansing Economic Area Partnership is awarding grants to three local communities to place public sculptures to stimulate potential business growth.
LEAP is giving $10,000 each to East Lansing, Delta Township and Delhi Township. Eight area communities now have received LEAP grant funds.
Each community that applies for the LEAP funding is required to adopt a public art policy.
The policies address issues like insurance and liability, maintenance and the formation of an arts committee to work with artists and art pieces representing the community.
Thus far, the City of Mason, DeWitt Township, City of DeWitt, City of St. Johns and Meridian Township have received funding for the placement of art.
Both the City of Mason and DeWitt Township unveiled their sculptures in the fall of 2013 and the next three communities will be unveiling their pieces in late Spring 2014.
