Eric Knysz Declared Brain Dead

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - The man who pulled the trigger in a shooting that killed Michigan State Police trooper Paul Butterfield is now declared brain dead after officials say he tried to hang himself Monday.

Our sister station in Cadillac reports that Eric Knysz has been on life support since his suicide attempt.

A family friend of Knysz tells them his organs will be donated.

He was recently convicted of shooting and killing trooper Paul Butterfield during a traffic stop in September of 2013.

Knysz was sentenced to life in prison just one week ago.
